I screwed up my computer again, many virus/worm, etc. I tried to do a system restore but I can't go back to December to find any good dates and there aren't available in my January month so what do I do?? I was thinking of installing Avast and seeing if I could get rid of it all but I can't be sure I got them all??!! Looking for help here, looking pretty screwed. Thanks a lot.

Can you boot to the OS and DL/install more security tools and do scans, or is it locking up a lot? If so, can you use safe mode? If you can manage to do the above, you may want to try HijackThis and GMER besides Avast. Others I use are CCleaner, Glary Utilities, SpyBot and a-Squared. Make sure any security tool you scan with is updated first too. Another thing you can do is look in Task Manager for processes you don't recognize that may be using an exorbitant amount of RAM. Google for what they are if not sure and end/delete them if you find them to be malware.

First though, run a HighjackThis scan ("Do a system scan and save a logfile" button), zip & attach it to your reply or put it in spoiler tags, and we can take a look at it.

If you have problems with malware disabling the restore function may help you. A lot of malicious programs hide within the backup files for system restore which makes it difficult to delete them.

Nevermind it all. I re-installed OS... restore point is useless if you start off with a problem early in the month... I wasn't able to roll back the months or anything.

All better now.
