Does your old joystick use a midi/game port plug? I don't know if anyone makes a USB adaptor for those but many sound cards come with a midi/game port. Try to find a cheap used soundcard and plug your joystick into that. You don't need to use the sound features of the card if your motherboard's sound is better.

When in doubt, gas it!

Yes they make one, look in Radio shack for a "gameport to USB" adaptor.

I have one, I just don't have a working job stick for it:p

The Game/MIDI port uses COMM ports, just like standard serial ports. But that's not the problem here. The issue at hand is a lack of the physical port (COMM ports, like LPT ports, are not as such).

At any rate, there are dongles out there that'll convert a gamport connector to USB. Wouldn't know where to find one, so Radio Shack is as good as any guess I'd make.

If you have a quite-old soundcard lying around, there are usually game ports on the back of them (yeah, it's weird, but that's what they did). If you don't mind sacrificing (or if you have on-board sound, you'll probably be gaining) audio quality for the ability to use the stick, then replace your current sound card.

It'll probably just be 15-pin COMM or 15-pin Serial to USB. They don't give them fancy names, just descriptive ones.
