mb=megebytes. the more the better... if there is more mb, the more information in can hold (in the case of graphic cards, pixels) which result in better quality/preformance. the 5500 was a reject card that never did well at all.. id get the 5700le

The BFG 5500 OC is overclocked to hit performance similar to the 5700LE. But if I were you and in that price range Id get a Infotek Radeon 9550 XT. Its $99 on Newegg and uses the same GPU core as the Radeon 9600XT.

FX 5500 = 5200 (same core). 256MB is not always better, sometimes 256MB means slower memory acess (slower clocks), meaning less performance. 256MB is only useful with games that needs wonderous ammounts of RAM to store high res textures.

Then your probably looking at a Nvidia FX 5700 or 5700 ultra. If you can afford it go for a 5900XT or better.

Go to the Nvida site and compare both cards and look spec at the vertices per second... that will give you a good idea. But as far as I know 5700 is a better and faster card.

As far as more memory is concerned it really depends on what youre going to be using the card for, but gen the more mem the better. With more mem you can store more game textures..

Anyways I hope that helps.
