Downandup/Conficker worm infects 9 million PCs : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech Wow, sounds pretty serious. And quite sneaky actually. Update anyone?

How the hell can this virus ever spread?

OPEN AND INSTALL are quite clear.

Of course there is a reason why it's a good idea to have autoplay off.

Exe file randomization to avoid signature detection has been around since the days of 16 bit asm viruses. Odd to see that someone decided to do this.

Gpds, I accidentally stumbled across this on the Ubuntu forums

[/It's quite an amazing piece of software. I have been trying to get it to run in wine, but its not perfect. I got a copy from offensivecomputing.net
It's not compatible with Wine? Oh noes!!!
How would WineHQ react when an AppDB entry would be created for the worm?

Eh. Nothing great. I'd rather come across this virus then half the others I do, This one is an easy mbam, sdfix and gone. Nothing I googled further about it puts it any further ahead of any other virus's, its just as easy to remove and spreads probably as quick. Its a 5 minute removal, if that.

It may be abvious to you but even i had to look twice te see what you where talking about. Its not that im a novice when it comes to computers, some people just dont notice things like that when there in a hurry or just not looking.

Eh, bad security policies are sort of the hallmark of the modern business. With various exceptions of course. I'd lay fair odds most of the people installing this thing are in business and don't really need the system privileges to do so in order to do their jobs.
