On Windows and need a good free anti virus program. I use to know one that I liked that started with a A but I forget its name..

I'll second either one of those. But going for the former of the two, because I use it myself.

Though both programs are decent.

Only annoying thing about AVG Free is the update I get everytime I decide to boot Windows. Or is that just me...?

Norton picks things up that AVG doesn't, so don't be fooled by the idea of invincibility because you have an antivirus program ;)

I too have noticed that Avast! seems to be more throuough than AVG.

Yup. If you're willing to shell out the money , NOD32 is the best AV. Period.

It's lightweight, but is the most comprehensive scanner I've found.
