Ok, I'm sorry I've been cluttering the tech thread with all my speaker stuff, but I was talking to a friend who really recommended the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speakers instead of the Logitech Z-5500s. Now, theres a $55 difference, and I wanted to know if the Klipsch speakers are really worth that much more or if I should just get the Logitechs. I'm not too wise on the audio stuff, but I do have a friend pretty well educated in it who can help me install the speakers.

Klipsch, they are worth every penny. Klipsch is one of the best names in audio, have you ever heard some of their floor standing speakers? Its like having a ford mustang(the logitec's) which is good. Then you have the option of the ferarri(Klipsch's) for a little more.

Klipsch is good, but I don't think that they're demonstrably better than the Logitech units. This basically leaves you with a "which looks better?" decision. The one thing I would make sure of first, however, is inputs. I brought this up in your previous thread, but it bears repeating: the Logitechs have analogue, S/PDIF coax and toslink optical inputs. I'm not sure if the Klipsches do or not. If they don't I wouldn't go near them. If they do, I'd toss a coin. (Logitech's control pod is sexier, BTW) ;)

....well I need one that will not require a geek who knows a thousand things about audio stuff. Have to agree with ya though, I like the Logitech look a bit more, but someone told me the sub on the Klipsch sounded better. (btw, Pethegreat I think I'm gonna assume that instead of a Ford Mustang to a Chevy Camaro :D )

I think the Klipsch is at least advertised with a lower fgrequency response floor than the Logitechs, but I'm not sure just how apparent that would be in reality, or how true it is for that matter.

Ok according to this review, "The sub is a dual powered 8” woofers ported 6th order design which gets down to 22 Hz this is far superior to Logitech’s 10” single driver which can only achieve 33 Hz" but when I look just on CompUSA's spec sheet it says "10 inch High-excursion Ported driver with 6th Order Bass Reflex Enclosure" so who is right?

As a general rule, I don't trust anything CompUSSR states. I've seen the 33Hz floor for the Logitechs elsewhere, however. Klipsch I think advertises their own as 25Hz. Can you tell the difference between the two? Who the hell knows... Note, however, that I don't buy that the Klipsch design is "far superior" by any stretch of the imagination. 8Hz better, sure. But once again I don't think that it's demonstrably so.

Alright, I'll save my money and get the Logitech. I like its looks much more than the Klipsch. Thanks for the help :)

np I think you'll be happy with the Logitechs (but then, I think you'd be happy either way 'round... but I really dig the Logitechs to be sure).
