Well i'm going to my a new HD for my ldell Inspiron 5100 aptop (currently have a 20 GB one). So i don't want to rush things an think it all over a bit. I myself are using (going to use) this handy site: http://www.tweakers.net/pricewatch/cat/336//?Sortering=Prijs&Query=&Action=&Landfilter=Ne Which gave my these list of potential candidates (i am probably going for a 60 GB unless the price difference would be just huge for a 40 GB one): Fujitsu MHT2060AT, 60GB (4200rpm) px.gif € 88,32 Hitachi Travelstar 5K80, 40GB (5400 rpm, ATA6, 8 MB) px.gif € 88,77 Hitachi Travelstar 4K80, 60GB (4200rpm, ATA-6, 8MB) px.gif € 89,25 Hitachi Travelstar 80GN, 60Gb, (4200rpm, ATA6, 8MB) px.gif € 89,25 Toshiba MK6021GAS 60GB (4200rpm, ATA-5, 2 MB) px.gif € 112,50 Toshiba 60GB (MK6021GAS, 4200rpm) px.gif € 97,95 Toshiba IDE 2.5" 60Gb 4200RPM px.gif € 104,20 Samsung SpinPoint M40, 60GB (5400rpm, ATA100, 8MB) px.gif € 105,91 Hitachi Travelstar 5K80, 60GB (5400 rpm, ATA6, 8 MB) px.gif € 109,- Fujitsu MHT2060AH, 60GB (5400rpm, 8 MB) px.gif € 114,- Toshiba 60GB (MK6022GAX, 5400rpm) px.gif € 114,40 IBM 60GB (Travelstar 80GN IDE ATA6 4200rpm) px.gif € 118,37 I myself doub between the following models: - Fujitsu MHT2060AT, 60GB (4200rpm) of px.gif € 88,32 - Samsung SpinPoint M40, 60GB (5400rpm, ATA100, 8MB) of € 105,91' - Hitachi Travelstar 5K80, 60GB (5400 rpm, ATA6, 8 MB)px.gif € 109,- - Fujitsu MHT2060AH, 60GB (5400rpm, 8 MB) € 114,- - Toshiba 60GB (MK6022GAX, 5400rpm) px.gif € 114,40 So what would you guess recommend? The Fujitsu MHT2060AT only goes 4200rpm, of the Samsung, Hitachi and Fujitsu MHT2060AH the Samsungs seems to be the best, Not sure about the Toshiba, if it is 8mb too it isn't a wise to buy it., but if it is 16mb or more... comments? thoughts? Thanks in advance anyway, i will give this all a good thought this evening. I just made the search minutes ago so... regards, Rob

Rob.... 1. Can you even upgrade laptops? I thought the only laptop you could upgrade was the Alienware Area-51 M.... 2. What do you need 60Gb for? Do you do video editing or massive file editing? 3. Why do Hard Drives designed for laptops have slower transfer rates? They are all around 5000rpm - you can get double that for the latest SATA Hard Drives for Desktops. 4. If you think it's worth it, you can find 80Gb Hard Drives for Laptops for only €30 more. Try using Kelkoo to find cheap prices: Kelkoo Netherlands Kelkoo UK Kelkoo Germany Kelkoo Belgium Kelkoo searches the most well known stores based in the country and displays the prices cheapest to most expensive. Good Luck.

Yes it is, atleast this dell is. They even explain to you in the manual how to replace hardware -but also mention that you will lose your warrant-.

2. What do you need 60Gb for? Do you do video editing or massive file editing?

Well i run out of space quite a lot with 20. 40 might be just fine but i want to be save and have 60 GB. I do edit lots of files (for school: all kinds of scripting languages and other programs AND for myself: editting bf1942 files, modeling , mapping. Then i also have to store a game or 2-3 and put lots of other stuff on it that i need.)

3. Why do Hard Drives designed for laptops have slower transfer rates? They are all around 5000rpm - you can get double that for the latest SATA Hard Drives for Desktops.

Don't ask me, i don't build laptops and i dont know that much about laptop hardware. We mostly learn about software and only a bit of destop hardware.

4. If you think it's worth it, you can find 80Gb Hard Drives for Laptops for only €30 more. Good Luck.

Thanks i will give that a try aswell! Any other comments?
