Hey all...Been quite awhile since I have posted...been real busy...Well, I have a Slot 1 MB that can handle a 1 ghz proc with 133mhz fsb. Currently, the only thing I can put in it, is a crappy 500. I am thinking bout buying a new cpu for it, and was wondering, would I be able to stick a slot 1 athlon in there? I have never seen a slot 1 athlon, only on websites, and in that case, would it preform better then a 1ghz p3? Plz get back to me...thx...

I'm not sure what a slot 1 is, and I dont entirely understand your question but... no Intel (the P3) and AMD (the Athlon) will use the same socket. An Intel motherboard cannot use an Athlon processor, and vice versa.

you guys arn't too bright... Slot 1 isn't a socket type, this is the upright processors, like the pentium 2's and early p3's. This is just another comp I putting together, I already have an awsome machine, all I plan doing with that one, is sticking an old 64mb Geforce 4 MX4000 AGP 4x, and 256mb of ram. Then my mom can use that comp, and every once and awhile, I can use it for lan parties...

Upright processors use sockets too. My answer hasnt changed. AMD's and Intels never use the same sockets, upright or not.

Again, I don't entirely understand your post but assuming they did share a common socket type, the BIOS and chipset must be configured for either an Intel or AMD processor. You just cant put an Athlon in an Intel motherboard. They may have both been called slot 1, but I doubt they were really the same anyway.

dude...whatever, clearly I have way more experience in old computers then you, old socket 7 boards could use pentium 1's and k6/2's, and yes, slot 1 will always be slot 1.

Only way you can mix a AMD and Intel in 1 motherbored is only if they have the same Socket and the Motherbored has the BIO's to run both Intel and AMD. I have never seen a Motherbored that can both run AMD and Intel. Not even in the old ones. But yeah wait till Monster_user comes on.
