Hey guys. My friend has a problem. He doesn't remember his password on the computer. He hasn't used it in a while so thats why. He doesnt want to reformat because his parents also use it and he has a bunch of important crap on it. My dad did something before for me where I couldnt remember my password and he fixed it. I dont remember what he did. I just remember when he was done my password was "password" lol. My dad wont tell me anything because he doesnt trust me. But, does anyone here have a way?

Is it a windows or a BIOS password?

if its a windows password (XP) :

start up in safe mode

there will do another account called admin or something, this account is NOT password protected.

open that account, and within that account, you can go to control panel en change all the passwords of the other users.

;) I had to try that a few years ago when me mom wouldnt let me play sof2 because of my finals..

jack got to it before me. That's the best way, there are also others (if you have access to ANY other account, go into msprompt and type /netuser [your profile name] [new password] But, generally using safe mode to get into Admin is the best.

It should be a blank password, just leave the field empty and hit enter. If that doesn't work, try 'admin' or 'password,' those are usually the defaults.

Can't you just go into your parents account, and assuming they are administrators, change your password to something else? or do you have to have the old password to change it to a new one.

They don't even need to be admins, but I got the impression it was a single-account PC.
