Just wondering if anyone has any ideas

It's stopped doing it now but basically I had the following setup;

1x DVD RW drive, disconnected

2x SSD

1x Mechanical HDD

I swapped one of the SSD's for the DVD drive when I wanted to use it the other day and it worked, except, after a while the PC would shut off as if it had shorted out.

So I disconnected the DVD drive but it continued to short...... which made no sense.

So in the end I opened it up, restored it how it was, cleaned everything, checked all cables seated etc. and it's been fine since......

Does anyone know what may be the cause?

My guess would be an improperly seated cable.

Power supply or motherboard showing end-of-life signs? Heat expansion causing something somewhere to move just enough to short to the chassis? Random metal shaving made its way somewhere critical? Loose power cable to the PC or somewhere within?

Maybe you can find some useful info in the event viewer?

Maybe it's the inevitable heat death of the universe.

Well, so far still so good so I assume it must have been a cable seating issue.

That would be the most common thing.

I had an issue in the past after dusting out my PC with a sata cabling coming loose so it's easy to do.
