hello. i have this problem. whenever a program uses like 10 - 15% of the cpu, my mouse would laggy and the sound gets slow, choppy and stuttering. it returns to normal when cpu load drops. i check process manager and i dont see any process that uses a huge amount of cpu power. i tried clean boot also. that didnt work. one thing i should mention is, when i right click my computer>properties, on the general tab, i dont see my cpu. normally it would be amd 3700+ windows xp sp1 2gb of ram. but 2 gb of ram is the only thing there. anyone know the cause of this? appreciate any help.

my spec: amd 3700+ socket 939 asrock dual sata2 geforce 6800gs 2gb ram onboard soundcard

Hmmm...Maybe you should try installing the AMD64bit processor driver, that's what im using right now. Also if that doesn't work then it sounds like it might be overheating? How man fans you got?

I used to have the same problem. I fixed it with a different hard drive I had laying around, has worked perfectly ever since. If you have a hard drive around the house you could reformat and reinstall on, try it.

hm. can you give us a bit more info about your motherboard, harddrive, operating system (xp pro or home, etc.) maybe then we can figure out the cause.

I have a very similar problem actually and I too have a Maxtor 200GB hard drive 6V200E0. I have a dual core Intel P4 3.4GHz processor (virtual) and whenever I try to use an installation application like msi or anything I get some huge system hog and nothing is stealing my RAM as I checked in the proccesses. Another interesting things is that in the processes thing, only one of the CPU is doing work, and at maximum power so all together I am only getting 50% of my processor speed available. Arrggggh! Help!
