I thought I once heard it is not a good thing to plug a powerstrip into another like to extend the reach or something. Any truth to this, as I am about to rearrange my room and would probably have to do something like that to make it all fit.

DO NOT plug a power strip into another power strip. What can/will happen is that you will draw too much current from the outlet that the first power strip is connected to, and you will cause the outlet to short circut, and you will short circut all the other outlets in your room.

Really it depends what you've got plugged into them, but for big electronics like TVs, HiFis and PCs it's a big no-no. Having said that, if you just need it to reach further a plain extension cable and a power strip should be fine.
