Well I have a mighty big problem it seems. About a half hour ago I found the computer had frozen while playing a game, so I did the usual restart method to get the computer running again. Except after the restart finished I found there was absolutely nothing on the desktop except my background. No files, no folders, no tool bars, no start bar, absolutely nothing, the screen was entirly blank. I decided to attempt a restart again because maybe it was some strange random occurrence. This fixed nothing and it was still blank.

Ctrl+Alt+Del still brings up the task manager so that is why I was able to get Firefox running to ask this question.

What the hell? That is really my question, at the root of it. What is going on with my computer? Is this something that can easily be fixed? I was thinking maybe a system restore would fix it but I'm not sure how to do a system restore using only the "Run" application.

using the run command, type in "explorer.exe" and see if that fixes it.

Yeah, try restarting explorer. Either go to Run, or File > New Task in task manager.

Tried restarting explorer but it actually wouldn't restart, so I managed to find the system restore utility under the run menu and simply did a system restore and problem is now solved. Thanks for the help though.
