my icons on my desktop get mixed up... like for ad aware the icon for it will be my icon for aol and like the icon for mozilla firefox will be misplace for the icon for nortan... like the lil picture thing.. what is that why does it do that is it a virus?

Nah its not a virus, Iv had it happen to me a few times. Never really pinpointed what the reason is. I used to fix it by refreshing the desktop or manually changing icons. Dunno when it stopped for me.

I get that sometimes. I haven't managed to pinpoint the trace either. I suspect it is just a bug in the shell coding.

This is a bit useless, but all the same it might help. If you can't get your old icons back, right click and open properties for an icon you want to change and click 'Change Icon'. Then type this in to the location: pifmgr.dll You'll be presented with some cool icons to choose from. [/useless information]

I have had this happen to me also. It usually happens after running a large program, or a game. I just ignore it, and when the computer is re-started, it's all ok then.

It has to do with the icon cache. When it gets too full, it will start assigning random icons. Unfortunately, it is not easy to fix. I've been looking for a solution for a while now. I had just found one, and lost it.
