I really dont know what the trouble is, and I was wondering if someone could help me with this. Recently, when I start my computer up it freezes completely and a line of static shoots across the screen. And now when I start it up, the screen is completely black with no backlight, etc. at all. Is this a virus or an internal problem?
Have you tested the monitor with another computer?
Plug your laptop into a desktop monitor and see if you get any picture.
If your computer itself is locking up and killing the screen, its sounds like a issue with your video card, or, less likely IMO, the video cable going into the monitor.
Has your laptop been dropped at all recently?

not that i know of... Ill try to plug it into a desktop display.
I've seen something similar to this happen in some of the Dell laptops that I've had to service in the past couple of weeks. In those instances I had to replace the mobo and the laptop worked just fine after that.
Just out of curiosity what brand laptop are you using?
dell. I forget the model #

If its under warrantee through Dell then I would recommend contacting them to see what can be done about fixing it. Depending on your warrantee you could either get a tech to come onsite to repair it or have to send it off to the depot to have it serviced.
whoops. my bad. it's an IBM. Also, it's a turkish model which I bought from ebay. I do know that it's an older model tho......
I'm betting on a faulty mobo and/or graphics card.
I would say that your best hope at the moment would be to take the laptop into a professional shop somewhere, and have them look at it and let them try to diagnose the problem.
