So yesterday morning when I started using my laptop something weird happened with the monitor. I couldn't get a photo or anything of it so I've uploaded the best depiction I could make of it in MS paint.

Basically, nothing is wrong and everything is working fine other than the output of the laptop's monitor. There are thick dark bars of display and thinner lighter bars of display in between. It isn't noticeable while doing something but if you just stay still and look at the screen, you will see it at arms length at least if not requiring to look closer.

The image I've attached basically shows what would somewhat look like the display output if looking at an entirely red screen.

I'm assuming the worst but please tell me it's not all bad. Power outages have been horrible and I really need to study load of hours of .pdf files on a computer.

And I haven't updated drivers or BIOS in forever so I can't blame it on that.

I also assume the problem is with the monitor itself as the display is like that even from the exact moment the monitor turns on and the BIOS bootup screen shows.

EDIT: Sorry guys. Can't seem to upload the image for some reason. I hope the description is sufficient. As I said display problems are only noticeable while not doing something and at an arms length at least.

Question: Do the bars stay there on a c/p'd image?

So, if you take a screenshot (Prt scr button, right of F12), save it in Paint, email it to yourself, and open it on another computer, are the bars still there?

If yes, it's your graphics card, and that'll need to be replaced. If no, it's your screen panel, and that'll need to be replaced.

You should update your drivers first though, just to make sure.

c/p'd?

I didn't check your response out earlier. I'll try that emailing thing later. Don't exactly have active internet access these few days.

There haven't been any updates ever since I bought this laptop. I'll try to reinstall the drivers.

You sure it isn't the screen itself? I thought the display drivers were loaded along with the OS.

How would I go about getting the replacement? Just submit it to the local ASUS service center?

Also what are the chances of this worsening with time and at what rate?
