Ok, here's my problem. I make AMVs on Windows Movie Maker which accepts WMV, WMA and AVI files, and every other clip works fine. However, every time I try to import Versus XIII clips or XIII clips they don't work, it doesn't matter if they're the proper file or where I've downloaded them from. What I want to know is what the hell is going on?! If anyone knows then please tell me how to fix it because I am frustrated out of my mind!
Now, how they don't work is that they'll import just fine but a few seconds after I've imported them I get this message.
Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
It happens every single time! So please help!

How were the Versus XIII clips captured, via Fraps? There are other things that can cause problems with WMM aside from incompatible file types. It is not a very robust editor, intended originally as a photo editor. Too large of files or projects too complex can make it crash. I often had to split my projects into two parts. Eventually I gave up on it and sufficed with VirtualDub and Xvid. They yield much better image quality and file size. The only trade off is VDub is not full featured, just basic editing.

I just downloaded the trailers off of Gametrailers as well as here. Also, my operation system is XP if that helps at all.

What is the total file size of the trailers once imported? MM, though not a very robust editor, should easily be able to handle file sizes of these trailers, even if you combine several. About the only time you'd run into problems is if your file size gets well over 1GB.
I just tested one of the FFXIII trailers on GameTrailers. I DLed the Denjeki Special Edition trailer. It imported into MM fine, combined fine, and played fine.
I did this test using IE though, because FF has issues streaming the HD trailers on GameTrailers for some reason and I didn't know if you were referring to HD trailers.
I don't know if that would affect FF's ability to DL HD trailers, but I wouldn't chance it if I were you. The method I used for DL was navigate to the trailer, select the DL button, then right click on the wmv option and Save target as.
If you follow these steps and still have problems you may be having some other trouble, like something running in the background, HD needing defrag, conflicting codecs installed, or even a problem with MM itself.
Is MM working OK when you test it with other clips?
Yes, it usually works with other clips fine. All of my various Final Fantasy clips work aside from a few what will only play once I put them on the time line but my WMM doesn't close. It seems to be only with Versus and XIII that I have problems. A few of my friends have problems with those clips as well.
