First off, what are you talking about? 1.7 ghz IS NOT slow. My computer runs at 1.4 ghz and has no problems running any of the games I have, including Far Cry. I would suggest you tell us what you need a faster processor for because it isn't worth the money unless you are trying to run some sort of server.

But a 1.7 with 256 ram is not ideal imho. Like I said..there are other parts of the computer you can think of. Memory and a good videocard will do wonders even with a 1.7.

:nodding: I was just telling him not to get the celeron. RAM and your card are just as important.:D

I know, that is why I would concentrate my efforts elsewhere. I have a 128 GeForce Fx5200 and 512 RAM and everything runs smoothly on either high settings.

Many new games require 256 mb of RAM MINIMUM, and that means just enough to get the game to start. I would suggest updating your RAM first before processor.

512 should be enough for most games that will be coming out in the next few years. When you will really start needing it the price will have come down a lot.

My processor is so pathetic I can't even play CoD with a 256 MB graphics card without lagging to hell. 256 kicks ass too.

I'm sorry. I didn't know 1.7 GHz wasn't slow, I just thought I needed a new processor for the type of graphic card I'm getting. Anyway, is there a specific type of RAM that I have to get with my computer, or is this okay? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=660126 EDIT: How do I find out what my memory speed is? EDIT: and how do I find out what my AGP speed, I think, is? Like I've seen AGP 8X. How do I find out if mine is 8X?
