I've just gotten mine, and have heard stories that the 9800 pro gets pretty hot. All I've got is the stock fan that came with the card and the computer's fan. If I just leave it alone, no overclocking, should my computer temperature be okay with no crashes due to overheating?

I have a stock ATI 9800 PRO 128 MB and my computer has never shutdown because of it running too hot. I think you will be fine, never had any problems playing half life 2, doom3, call of duty.

Thats why he said it ;)

Bad news, it depends on the Maker of the card, they buy the fans. The stories you heard, are probably from someone who bought an ATI Radeon from a cheap vendor.

Might I recommend MSI, or whatever SquirrelAssassin uses.
