I'm given two options of a notebook. One has the x1700 which is the ASUS A8JP. The other has a x2300 which is the later model, the A8JR.

Is the x2300 just a dumbed down GPU or what?

I'm tempted to say that the performance of the x1700 will be close if not equal to the x2300.

I wasn't even aware that the x2300 was out yet, but it's the new baseline model of (what eventually be) the new ATi x2300 series. However, since it's the baseline model, if will probably be on par with the mid-level x1000 series card, the x1700.

Here's more information on the x2300: http://ati.amd.com/products/MobilityRadeonx2300/index.html

Yeah, I looked at the spec sheet.

It's because I have the option of the A8JP and A8JR. The A8JP has a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, and x1700. Whilst the A8JR only has a 1.66, and the x2300. The A8JR is cheaper though. I'm just trying to toss up which one to go for.

The A8JR also has Vista with it (not that I really care). I won't be playing really intensive games. But I still want a decent performing laptop and I feel as though the processor in the A8JR will be a bit of a let down.
