My old, knackered NAS, a Western Digital MyBookWorld, is on its last legs.

It was never that great, it supports gigabit ethernet but its CPU is so bottlenecked there's literally no reason for it to have a GB ethernet port other than for them to shove "Gigabit ethernet" on the box.

It's 2TB but more storage and faster storage would be welcome.

What are decent NAS drives powerful enough to take advantage of decent network speeds?

What is your price range and how important is redundancy to you?

"RadioActiveLobster"What is your price range and how important is redundancy to you?

Don't really want to spend more than say £150 ($200~ish)

Redundancy isn't a major factor for me, but if it's there for the price and the storage requirements I'll take it.

Mac is good for this shit tho.

How does it play with Windows? I don't want to cross filesystems.

P.S. after my current experiences, I'm not sure I want to go Western Digital again.

You can pick up a two bay unloaded netgear nas for pretty cheap new and used.  I've got one at my house that I use as a backup server for all of my portable drives.  Had a couple of 640gb drives lying around, slapped them in and it's been running ever since.

It's difficult because there are pretty feature rich NAS boxes in the ~$200 range but none of them come with drives.

Most of the stuff in that range that comes with drivers are going to be the basic single bay external HDDs that just happen to be network attachable.
