Well, I'm looking for a laptop, lol. I don't want one that'll allow me to make little kids cry on company of heroes on the max settings, or weighs eleventy billion pounds, or has a 10 milisecond battery life. I'm looking for one that's low priced (not the Eee book kind), light, has a good battery life, BUT has a somewhat good monitor so that I can watch videos or movies and a fair sized hard drive that'll allow me to take my music with me whereever I go. I'll deal with the internet connection stuff via wireless internet or a card via sprint or something. It'll be used to do my homework and what not, run GIMP, Vegas, working on the yearbook at school, taking notes (no tablet though), etc. I'd like it to be semifast so that it doesn't take 20 years to open word with firefox running in the background. Price needs to be below $1000US but if it's a tad bit over, thats fine (at 1800 dollar one is not). Anyone have any sugestions.

Gods, I just hate your prices. Makes me wish the border was a bit closer so one could order from there.

I personally would probably head into the vaio's on that page.

And generally what I've heard from a lot of people, was to avoid ACER, ASUS and that DELL's tend to be sometimes great sometimes terrible.

On the good side tend to be LENOVO, MSI, Fujitsu and Toshiba.

Whatever you decide on, don't even consider getting a Dell Studio 15. I made the mistake of buying one in August for $750. Since then, it has lost its ability to output sound to anything but HDMI (reinstalling sound drivers doesn't help), the touch sensitive buttons for volume, disk eject, etc. have gone completely dead, and now the Windows system restore program no longer runs. Biggest piece of shit I've ever owned, it's going back as soon as I get home from uni.

HP makes some nice laptops. My friend has one and really enjoys it.
