I'm starting a new job soon and it'll require a fair bit of report writing and data analysis, I also want it to write articles for GameFront. At the moment I'm utilising my desktop PC upstairs but if I'm out and about I'd really like to have the ability to do whatever and not carry around a bulky laptop.

I'm looking at either Surface Book Pros or iPads but haven't owned either, I have an iPhone but am not an Apple fan through and through, just wanted to see some of your opinions on what good tablets or light laptops you've brought for work purposes?

Hmm, I don't have too much experience with tablets/laptops, but I can throw a few names out for you to check out.

-HP Spectre x360  series - 2-in-1 that looks well-built with a pretty decent display and performance

-Razorblade Stealth - 13-inch laptop that looks like a good performer

-Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon x1 - 2-in-1 that's pretty thin. I personally have a Thinkpad T580 and my experience has been decent with it, though I have a couple gripes. I might have gone with the 14-inch version (T480) or the Carbon x1 and gotten a screen protector if I were to purchase again, but the keyboard is pretty solid for a laptop keyboard. Also is pretty robust and has a good battery life. I don't really have issue with a little bulk though as I don't have to travel far on foot with the laptop on me.

-Ask Danny about his new Surface Book. I believe he loves it.

iPad seems like it'd just be a hassle to type on but I've never used one. I probably wouldn't be opposed to a Macbook though...

All of that said, I hardly ever use a laptop. Even after getting one with a good display and keyboard I feel like I'm looking through a keyhole when I use it.

Thanks for the input, I'll take a look at the Lenovo and the others, I know Danny is loving his new Surface Book Pro. It's a bit costly but I suppose if you want quality you need to put the money in for it!

I'll start saving and will let you know when I buy it, probably in the summer! It'll be mostly used for work and general purposes instead of gaming, but if I can get a few non-intensive games on it why not! I only thought of an iPad because a lot of people have it and use it, but you're right a MacBook would be better than an iPad if I'm going for this kind of laptop-esque products.

I have the Surface Pro 6, the Surface Book and Surface Laptop are slightly different beasts.

The Pro is the lightest / easiest to carry round, but you do pay extra for the keyboard, it's very powerful. I have the Core i5 8GB model.

The Surface Book is more like a laptop but with a still detachable screen, but the base while more sturdy and like a laptop is a little less portable.

The Surface Laptop is basically a traditional laptop and comes between the two, very thin and portable, but not detachable.

There's also the Surface Go which is a lot cheaper but I don't recommend it as its performance is poor.

Of course there's other PC makers now emulating the Surface form factor for cheaper so you may want to look into them if First Party & Alcentara covered keyboards are not important to you.

Thanks Dan, I'll take a look and save up for sure for the Surface Pro 6 or maybe 7 it'll be then! I want something a little powerful to play some basic games and maybe when I save up for that there'll be some more competition from other companies to take a look at too.
