And it does the trick!

I noticed all of my temps lately have been getting/staying pretty warm, so, to combat this, I dug out an old 6" high power fan, and placed it blowing at an angle out the back of my case.. (No side panel, but meh...)

Since I've done this, I've seen significant drops in temps all around..

My CPU has seen Core 0 go from 47' C idle to 37' C idle. Core 1 went from 43' C idle to 32' C idle..

And finally, the thing that made me happiest..

My factory overclocked 8600 GT went from 63' C idle, to 53' C idle. that's a whopping 10' C.

So, if you're desperate for some cooling during the summer in an AC'd room, don't be afraid to pull off that side panel, and set up a room fan. :D

but of course, most of you have 1337 coolers anyways.. :P

Seems to me if your room is AC'd the case you have is very poorly ventilated if you have to go to those extremes.

It is, It's a standard P.O.S. case. VERY poorly ventilated, but after I get my 9600 GT, I'm upgrading my case to This case here.

Newegg.com - RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEB 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case - Computer Cases

not only does it look REALLY cool, it has 2 120 mm fans (intake and exhaust) and I think 3-4 80 mm fans. As well as a fold out mobo tray. All for only $80. :)

Didn't mean to make it sound like you're naive about the need of a good case, but I always like to mention it for the benefit of those whom build a system with the case as an afterthought. That case looks like a pretty good buy, and fairly unique in design. The 80mm size fans are a bit dated, but they put them in fairly good locations, there are just 2 though btw. The pic below shows the 2 and one spot to put a 3rd, which would go in the other green cage at the side of the upper HD cage. I kinda like the way the panel on the MB side drops down for easy mounting and access after the build, though it does mean the cables can't be tucked behind the MB tray. smilodonks3.jpg

Lol, ok, so it only has 2 80mm fans.. :P But yeah, bad thing about that folding MB try is that if you have a big CPU cooler, you won't be able to fold that tray out because the cooler will get caught on the top of the case, but it's not a big deal imo..

Not sure how soon I'll be getting this case, but hopefully within the next month or two. The 9600gt and psu come first! :)

Hey, that's the case I have. The only difference is that mine lights up blue. It's extremely comfortable with the easy opening system, great for cleaning and changing parts, but don't expect any insane temps with this, my computer overheats from time to time. Since you guys seem to be confused about this, it has four fans. One 120 mm in the front, two 80 mm on the sides, and one 80 mm on the back of the case. In addition it has a cage for 80mm HD cooling, but I haven't yet used it since I don't really see that helping much.

Could that be the reason Why it overheats? lol.

I know this case is not mazing, but it's alot bigger and better than a P.O.S. case made by gateway.. or some weird company like that.

And, on Newegg, I read that it has 2 120mm fans (front and rear) and a few 80mm fans.. but meh, I'll go do more research and possibly find a better case for the $$$.. :)

Well, like I said, I doubt it. I'm sure it would be a problem when that part of the case is filled with Hard drives, which is also the event for which the cage is prepared, but I only have two, one top and one bottom, plenty of breathing room.

Lol, even if I only had 1 HD, I'm sure I'd add another fan just because. You can never have too much cooling!! :)

LOL, confusingkid was a bit confused, but not me. In fact you almost got it right yourself except the rear fan is actually 120mm, not 80mm. In fact you can clearly see in the pic I posted that the rear fan is much larger than the side fans. I also mentioned the cage for an optional 80mm fan to vent the upper HD cage. ;)
