Hello, my name is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and i am a re-reformater.
It has been six months since my last reformat, but i am getting the urge for another. I dont know if i can do it, my computer is getting slow, i probably have stuff gunking it up everywhere. I have two hard drives, one 80gig (primary) with 18.9 gig free, and a storage drive of 160 gig with 35.2 gig free. The storage drive has no OS files on it, so it can be uses as storage and if i do reformat, i wont lose any of that info.
If have been thinking though, of possibly using my 160 gig (or possibly the 80) to test the new CTP Beta 2 release of Vista, but I dont really like the though of making my 160 non storage, and then risk the chance of losing all of that info if i ever have to reformat again. I have also thrown around the possibility or partioning the 160 into two 80's, using one for storage, and one for the vista beta.
I also may just scratch the plans for the beta all together (Probably the best option)
let me just save your system from a premature reformat (*sigh* only with windows...) http://www.iobit.com/AWCv2Beta.htm
thanks for the link.
But im not sure what is going on, i am getting slowdowns, crashes (in games), etc......i think i may have got a virus. But i have done scans with Avast, AVG, Ad-aware, A Squared, Spybot S&D, CCleaner and they have found nothing
You could try to do a de-frag of your hdd, just let it run a night.
i defragged last night, and it checked out ok.
I have a lot of stuff on here i dont use anymore, and i have uninstalled them, but they leave stuff behind that doenst get deleted.

As much as maintenance helps, it still can't compare to the like new performance of a freshly formatted HDD and a clean windows installation. It just can't.
I try to do it 1 or 2 times a year. Just make sure you dilligently back up all important files.
well, guys, im gonna reformat my HDD, so if you dont see me for a while, something went fubar......
Try getting more free space on your 80gb drive, you only have less than 25% at the moment, try for 50% and see if the performance comes back, you can always install games on your 160gb drive if thats a problem and look through your programs listing and docs and setting for old folders left behind from uninstalls, also a reg-clean program is a good thing to have like reg-clean expert, then de-frag again,no dissing but if there is one thing that annoys me is people have a pc problem and rather than try to fix it they just do a fresh install when its not needed.I havn't re-formatted in 2 yrs now don't see the need to either.
see ya soon and format shouldnt take long i have it down to 1.24hours now with antivirus drivers etc on
I used nLite to remove all the useless crap before I even install it, can incorporate drivers and stuff as well which is far easier than downloading and installing about 30mb of drivers. Far better than using something like XP Lite to remove stuff after installing it, and definately a hell of a lot better than installing Windows with all the useless junk included.
