My new computer keeps just randomly resetting, no warning, no shutdown. Screen just goes blank, then it starts up. It tends to do this when I'm doing quite a bit of memory e.g. got several websites open, downloading stuff off P2P, running java based programs and scanning for viruses. I haven't been able to finish scanning for viruses yet. It's only been doing this since I connected it to the internet... but then again, I wasn't doing any of that before I connected it. Any ideas?
Do you have Windows 2000?
I have been getting the same thing, but mine has been an instance of overheating and having the automatic shutdown kicking in.
XP Pro... But I think my mobo has the overheating protection thing.
That could be the problem then. If it really is bothering you, go change it to a higher temperature during loadup next time you restart. Just remember, you don't want your CPU to melt...
I haven't overclocked though... :s
I know, but the CPU can overheat if it is a hot day and you have been running your computer nonstop for some time.
If its an overheating problem you can change the automatic shutdown feature in BIOS. Press "delete" while your booting your machine to enter BIOS. I belive standard temperature for shutdown is set to 70 degrees celcius.
