I'm having problems with my router in that I can't connect to the internet through it. LAN still works though. It was set up September last year and been working fine on 4 computers until a few days ago when it suddenly just stopped working all on its own. Tried unplugging the router and running it straight through the modem, works that way on just 1 pc out of the 4, althought I think it used to work on all 4 like that before the router was first installed. Anyway, reset the router settings to factory and tried again, no joy. I don't actually know what I'm doing but have been trying to fiddle with it for the last few hours. What I did was; 1. Connect router to modem. 2. Connect PC to router (with network settings of detect automatically) 3. Run ipconfig, do release then renew. 4. Go onto router settings and select Dynamic IP settings, then check status and have a full list of IP address/subnet/gateway/mac address/DNS automatically. 5. Attempt to connect to internet via router, doesn't work.

Also tried to enter in the ip/gateway etc. info manually on the other 3 PC's, as automatically it just goes renewing IP.... then doesn't do it. Copied network info from working PC before disconnecting it manually typing it in the other pc's, says connection established, tried to repair then, does that but still doesn't access the internet. What am I doing wrong?

Could it possibly be a problem with your ISP? Call them up and see if there's trouble in your neighborhood

My house mate already phoned our ISP, did a few things to the computer then they said it was something with the router when it finally worked directly through the modem, saying it therefore wasn't their problem and hung up.

so when you do ipconfig it says all the info is correct? Do you have a network key?

As far as I'm aware, through the router it gives the ips and subnet of the router, without the router it displays a different ip/subnet/gateway and I can get online. I tried putting all the ip addresses etc. into the router settings both automatically and manually and it shows up but no internet with the router :s. As for a network key, no idea.

Sounds like a pretty crappy ISP if you ask me... which company is it, if you don't mind me asking?

NTL. I unplugged the router and modem last night then plugged it in again this morning. It now works on my laptop direct through modem but not on the computer it did yesterday. I'm gonna have another fiddle with it in a bit...

I had this a few days ago with my laptop, wireless. My other pc's, not wireless, still worked. Is the internet at your place by any chance wireless too?

Nope, wired. I'm thinking I might just have to get someone round to fix it.
