My PC was running as it should, getting it's average FPS and running everything it should be able to. It suddenly slowed down, and now I can barely play Battlefield 1942 on 640 x 240 x 32 on ALL LOW SETTINGS. I would usually get 40-50 FPS in Battlefield 1942 on all high settings with a resolution of 1024 x 768 x 32(my native resolution). My system specs: nVIDIA 5200 FX Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHZ 512 MB DDR RAM Changes since slow down: -Sims 2 -A bunch of Spyware(almost taken care of) -Microsoft Word -Microsoft Excel

Try removing all the spy-ware and then System Restore to a day before you noticed the slow down. That should give you the speed back and also tell you what was slowing it down.

I tried getting the system restore to work, but I only got the same answer after 10 times.

also, try reinstalling the detonator drivers your video card uses. Sometimes those drivers (especially with certain spyware programs) can become corrupt and cause issues. It can also be because your system lacks proper ventilation or is dusty, causing overheating. If reinstalling your drivers doesn't fix the issue, crack open the pc and give it a good shot of compressed air. You can find cans of it in most electronic stores.

Make sure you have downloaded all the updates from Microsoft. I heard somewhere that if you don't have a certain Update installed then System Restore won't work after a date of something like September 2001.
