Ok so around christmas time this year i got my new X-fi Xtreme Gamer sound card and had a few issues then and i took the card back and got a new one, seem to be ok. And along with those issues i notice other things going wrong to and so i bought a new harddrive (Raptor) and I reloaded windows on to it. So is a fresh copy of XP Pro SP2 and its all been updated. Works great until today when i went to plug in my mic and jump on xfire and my mic did nothing. Went to control panel and did the test settings and still nothing its like it just was never installed but it had been working just 10 hours before when i had gotten off the night before. Its a standard 3.5mm jack headset and it works all the time have checked it with my other PC. All that happened between those to times is the computer got shut down, thats it. Also the sound worked fine just not the mic input. So i uninstalled all of the software from creative and redownloaded everthing and reinstalled and it all works again. This very same thing happened on the other harddrive and with the other copy of windows. so what am i to do if this keeps up every two weeks uninstalled and install cuz that will get old in a hurry.
There probably isn't much you can do other than imprint into your brain that Creative sound cards suck. But in all seriousness, sounds like a bug with the driver to me, so until they fix it I doubt there's much you can do.
You could try reverting back to an older driver.
Yes Marvin i did try that but there was none to go back too. Also Archaon you said that creative cards sux which i am finding out the hard way, but anywho if this just ends up being to much to bear after awhile what card might you recommend i get instead??
If you're using surround sound I'd go for an M-Audio Revolution or Auzentech X-Meridian. If you're not then an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is a cheap and well specced option.
