I am thinking about getting sound card http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16829102178

I am currently using on board AC97 and my motherboard has 8 channel audio built in, my question is how much better sound quality will i get out of this card and would it be worth spending the money on it.

I was going to pair the sound card up with these speakers http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16836121126

I still plan on getting the speakers but would like to order them at the same time

Iwould get the Soundcard mate. I thought onboard sound was good till i got an Audigy then i realised what i was missing. Onboard is ok but a dedicated card is a must IMHO.

:agreed Most onboard soundchips suck. They offer low quality and are nothing but trouble. Get the soundcard, the Audigy ZS isn't even that expensive.

Get the soundcard, the difference is huge even with the headphones I use, and I suppose it will be bigger with surround speakers.

If you'd like to save a little, the SB Audigy 2 Value has as good sound as that more expensive card, it just lacks some features that you might or might not need.
