I heard that the Mac mini's sound is really rubbish and can hardly be heard is this true ?

The sound is fine but don't expect music to sound good. I would recommend picking up a $50-$100 set of speakers.

Yeah don't use the built in speaker in the Mac mini. Go get a nice set of speakers like Spartan said. Only reason they even put built in speakers is to have sound until you get good ones, they even do that with the Powemac sad to say.

get a set og 5.1 or 7.1 SRS will be better off in the long run buddy.

This is the one I'm getting. I'll use the built in speakers and after a while buy some proper speakers.

Don't count on being able to hold out for a long time on those speakers. Like I said, the Mini's speakers get the job done, but they are not meant to be the only speakers. I ended up using 10 year old computer speakers until I had a chance to pick up some new ones.
