I have a Soundblaster Live 5.1 soundcard, yet my drivers insist I only have a Value. I know for a fact I have a Live! 5.1 yet the creative drivers will do nothing but insist I have a Value card and thus only let me have a 4 channel speaker arrangement. I just bought some 5.1 speakers but I can't get full advantage of the center speaker or the sub because my drivers won't let me switch to a 5.1 configuration (using SPIFDIF or whatever it is, the orange socket as well as the green and black one)

This is really fustrating. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this issue?

Don't have a CD.

I've tried both the Live! unipack driver and the Live! 5.1 / audigy drivers from creative's website and I still can't get my computer past the idea I have a Value. :/

Oh;

I have an unknown device in my device manager called "Multimedia Audio Controller" if it's any help.

I had the same problem once but I don't remember how I solved it :)

Try to get rid of all soundblaster drivers you have installed, maybe you can find an uninstall-tool for that. Then look for a driver which either lets you chose which kind of soundcard you use (I think it was like this in older versions) or which simply support only your soundcard. You probably won't find those drivers on any official Creative sites. Installing from CD is probably the easiest way to get it working.

Well you could try and email or ring creative and see if they will send out the CD for you?

It came with an old computer and the origonal drivers are on a partition on that old computer. There is no CD for it and it's way way past it's warranty so Creative won't dice.

I've tried that MrFancypants but the only drivers I can find is the Unipack driver that is for every type of Live! sound card. It just detects mine incorrectly. Even without the creative drivers, XP detects the card as a Value. :/

Hm, do you have by chance a Soundblaster Live ! Basic or Player? Because I have a driver CD for this here and might be able to upload it.

But I guess this is just the driver for value-cards. I will perhaps be able to find a 5.1 CD when I drive home on Friday (unless my brother lost it which happens sometimes).

I think it would be a Basic but I'm not certain.

That comes with Live!

Uh, eh?
