Well this is how it started...I wast typing on msn earlier then all of the sudden my computer crashed, next thing I know my computer shut off. So I turn the computer back on and noticed the screen did'nt work,A message would say no signal dected,So I turned off the tower,re connected the cable and everything, still did'nt work.(btw the moniter cable was connected to the plug and play slot). So I get the 6 year old crt and hook it up to the plug and play slot, still no picture showed up, I had on the sound and windows started up normally.

So then I decided to hook up the cable to the intergrated video port,The picture showed up and things were going fine. But I noticed when I shutdown my computer it does'nt shut down, I come back 10 min later and the computer won't shut off.

Another problem was my graphics card did'nt work. When I looked at system hardware it was'nt dected. I uninstalled the ati software and tryed to reinstall it had a error message saying make sure you have the ati hardware installed. I tryed using add new hardware option too, that did'nt fix it. So my shut down does'nt work, my plug and play slot does'nt work, and my video card does'nt work either.

So only solutions I can think of is system restore, and a new video card but after system restore.

Notes: The video card is 1 years old and its a ATI Radeon X300 SE Pci-express card. The computer tower is a gateway 835GM, also about 1 years old. I'm using dial-up so doing a system restore I would have to redownload my microsoft updates, and my trend micro internet security.

So if you read this far do you have any helpful tips? Any help will be greatful.

Yeah, sounds like you got a power surge and blew out your computer. A system restore would be good but everything that isn't working is probably fried.

System Restore won't fix it. Just by your post, I can tell that your Graphics card is dead.

If the onboard video works and he can get into Windows, his mobo obviously works...
