Does any one know what causes this (see attachment)?, in windows the pictures show like they are low bit pictures (they look like 8 bit pictures, and the colors on most websites are wrong as well) where as in games the color in pictures are normal (32 bit).

Current Resolution: 1280 x 1024 - 32Bit color

edit- I think i might be mistaken since that picture in the attachment is probably showing as a normal picture, although on my desktop its showing as an 8 bit picture :(

The edit limit is a bit annoying since this time i took a picture of the monitor using a digital camera to show what it looks like (8 bit colors?) since i'm not sure how to fix it :(

The image certainly shows poor quality color on your desktop background.

Try the Display Properties (Start > Run > enter desk.cpl). In the Settings tab, check what is set for the Color Quality.

But 8 bits? I'd have thought the minimum would be 16 :uhm:

At the time it was set at 32 bit color (I tried changing to 16 bit and back to 32 bit but it was the same, this was the first thing that i looked at ;)), but since then i've managed to fix it by changing some settings in the ATI Control panel (just by pressing default!, even though i hadn't changed any settings in that though)

It's kinda hard to tell, but the icons and taskbar all look fine, so it's just the picture...are you sure it's not just a crap picture?

It was a picture that came with windows xp ;), i tried it with several photos (all 24 bit Jpg pictures ;)) but since its fixed it doesn't really matter

I did, but i did say it works now (because of a strange option in the ATI control panel), thanks for all your help though :)
