Hi all. I have an Asus K8v-SE Deluxe motherboard. It has 3 slots for memory. I currently have 2 sticks of 512 mb ram installed, leaving me 1 open slot. I want to increase my memory up to 2 gig, but someone told me that adding a 1gigabyte stick would make the memory run slower???? And I would be better off adding another 512 instead. Any opinions on this? This pc is used primarily for gaming. Thanks:beer:

Mixing will slow it down some! The more memory you have is always better! That motherboard should support 3 1gig sticks, but I would just get another 512 to keep it simple. Also make sure all 3 sticks are the same brand or make. I have seen where different makes of ram like to conflict a little.

I never have liked mixing memory sticks either, but from what you have said, I dont think it will slow down your memory. The person that told you this was probably assuming you have dual-channel RAM, which requires that you have matching memory modules in each channel to work. However, since you only have 3 memory slots, your motherboard most likely doesnt support dual-channel anyway. Go ahead and buy a 1 gig stick if you want.
