i know viryually EVERYONE does this, but im gettin a new budget gaming PC in october/ November and need to know if this will be a good pc that doesnt need majorly upgraded every few months lol EVGA nForce 590 SLI mobo-$130 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+-$100 G Skill 2 GB ddr2 800-$90 FSP Group 650W psu(SLI READY)-$100 GeForce 8600 GT-$115(suggestions) Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xxtreme-$91 Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case-$50 WD Caviar 250 GB sata-$63 Sony DVD burner-$53 Logitech USB keyboard-$16 Logitech G5 mouse-$40 Windows XP home-retail-$200 TOTAL W/shipping=$1,082 Let me know if im missing something i need, anything that will improve cooling, etc. i want to keep it below $1500 though
Why not get an OEM version of XP? It's half the price of the retail version.
For the amount of money you're spending, I would get a better video card, such as an 8800 series, and a Core 2 Duo CPU.
If your going with XP no need to get a DX10 card. I would go for this X1950XT. Great card, even better price. Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100186L Radeon X1950XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 VIVO HDCP Video Card - Retail You would have to choose a different mobo though. One without SLI will probably save you a little cash anyways, do you really want SLI? If not I would go for something like this Newegg.com - ASUS M2NPV-VM Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
do u plan on keeping XP as the OS or going to switch to Vista within the next couple of months, i would go with the 8600 GT then or something with DX10 and if you arent going to use SLI then dont bother with the SLI mobo like steven said that case is good i got the centurion 5 with the window, its got alot of drive bays and space, but if you want to spend a few more bucks to have better cooler then you could go with this Newegg.com - XCLIO Windtunnel Fully Black Finish 1.0 mm SECC Chassis ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail or Newegg.com - Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail or(one of my favs) Newegg.com - NZXT Zero Black/Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail
It looks good to me. Only thing i'm not sure about is the PSU, i've never heard of the brand.

Lose the SLI mobo if you're not using a SLI config, as others have said. The video card is great, but if you're using XP Home, get something in the 76-79 hundred range, or the equivelant ATI. If you plan on getting Vista, stick with the 8600, unless you really need the performance boost of the 8800, but the price, I think, really isn't worth it right now. I recommend that you get a cheaper Core 2 Duo, as it beats AMD 64 X2's in almost all benchmarks, especially those gaming related. Even the 1.86 ghz one and below are worth it over their AMD equivalents. And if you still have money left over (as you're keeping it below 1500) you could get an additional 8600 and keep the SLI mobo, and run the two cards in SLI for better performance. (Or you can get a core 2 quad, lol. Only 230 $$ now!)
In a month will be another price drop from INTEL, so I will look at C2D if I were you. QuadCore are waste of money because they are not nativ quadcore. If you want quad wait for Penryn.

ok first things first. NO INTEL lol i have had so much trouble with almost EVERY intel pc ive had.its time for AMD :D i WILL eventually use the SLI config, just maybe after crysis comes out or other demanding games, which will be when i switch to VISTA so the OEM is a good idea. also, no ATI, nvidia blows them out of the water with the price/performance ratio. also im not sure of the PSU either, i might switch it to Antec or something a little bit better known. Thank all of you for the advice on everything, i will definately reconsider some of the things you guys suggested, however, some things i already have my heart set on (such as AMD and Nvidia) any more suggestions? keep em coming :D
If you're going to spend $1000+ why buy the slower brand of processor?
