Your not suppose to make changes to it. Its a protected file. There is a setting where protected files are locked and changes can't be made.

I know you can use msconfig to see the system.ini file

If there is no image, Mikey broke something...

What Vista is doing is trying to stop your system crashing down around you if you make a mistake whilst editing.

Disabling UAC might allow you to continue, however that probably wouldn't be a good idea. Files such as this are protected for a reason.

It's security permissions - the r/w access will be set to system (which does not include administrator accounts. You ened to take ownership of the file and add the appropriate permissions to it - I don't recommend this unless you do a system backup or something similar first. Just out of curiosity... what are you trying to change in the file? Bunty
