I didn't realise it was so bad.

Not too many months ago I bought an ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 Strix OC Edition for £480 on sale.

They're now over £740.

I can't believe the Crypto mining craze has gone so out of control. Also apparently the cost of DRAM has gone up due to the demand from mobile phone manufacturing, so GPU prices are through the roof.

I am definitely glad I got my card when I did.

When do we think this GPU price hike will die down? Is there an end in sight to this issue?

According to Nvidia they expect it to last till the end of the year so not much hope in site.

Makes me glad that my GPU will last for quite a while before I need to upgrade.

Earlier this year there were rumors of Nvidia possibly announcing a new card lineup at one of its conferences. But I guess Nvidia has since made a statement that makes that possibility sound pretty unlikely.

I sort of wish I'd purchased a 1070 when they were released, but this 970 is good enough. Just means I have to turn the resolution down from 2.5k for newer games. At least for me this means I'll have a bit more spending money by the time the next set of cards does come out.

If anything does get announced in the near future I'd expect it to be something on the enterprise or AI side of things, not the consumer or gamer side.

We are probably looking at August at the earliest but more likely the end of the year.

That's assuming they just arn't waiting out the memory shortage which could be into next year.

My GPU is now worth double than what I bought it for. Meaning I can sell it for double what I paid and not even get a better GPU.

What even is that all about.

It's not as bad on the high end though even those cards are selling for a lot more than what they should.

If I wanted to SLI my 1080Ti I'd be paying $100-200 more than I paid for the first one.

Whelp, the crypto-mining bubble has burst, if you will, and prices are rapidly approaching msrp again. If you buy used, you may even get something below msrp.

Finally! Maybe I can finally get a gaming rig at a reasonable price.

What do you guys think about the next gen of nvidia cards? Worth the wait?

I'm on a GTX970, which gets the job done for 1080p, but I wouldn't having something with a little more umph for my machine learning and to try out some 4k gaming.
