I've never liked the XP theme.. and just recently decided that I want something more unigue than Classic. So I searched for themes. After a few n00b attempts, I ended up download.. things.. which ended up just changing my wallpaper. Apparently, I need some program to change it. Okay. I downloaded "windowblinds". Turns out it was a 60 day trial, and throws a pop-up in my face every time I log into Windows.

So I've got questions... where can I get free themes? Is there something to change the theme that doesn't throw a window in my face every time I start up? And that's free?

Also! I'm looking for a black and white theme.. like with default XP, but the blue part would be white, start button black with white letters... know of any?

StyleXP is good, the free trial leaves you with 5 good themes that you can select without the program.

Yes, and so are most of the themes for it.

DeviantArt's Visual Style Browser is your friend. ;)

Okee.. so I downloaded the patcher thing and a theme (Silver royale) The Readme says to put the "Silver Royale" folder in my Resources folder.. but there are two. In the .zip there's one, and another in that with the theme file thing.. so I put the "second" folder and .theme where it said.. then ran the UX patcher it seemed to go fine, tells me to wait "about a minute" before telling Windows to keep the file, which I did. then it restarts my computer.. I go to the Themes section in my properties panel.. select Silver Royale.. Apply.. and BAM! All I get it a grey background.

:uhm: I'm obviously doing something wrong. Would someone explain this in detail to me?

you can just double click the .msstyles file after you are patched, also. I am using an official modded theme called royale noir. It is an all black royale theme, without having to patch windows.

I got it. The Readme said to put it in the wrong folder :p Had to put it in the Themes folder within Resources.

I also use that method! It's the best way to make XP cool!

Every time I download Royale, and restart it's not there anymore and switches to a Windows Classic theme. I'm sure this question has been asked before, is there a patch or something that I need to download to prevent this from happening?

I used to have this program that if one put in the theme the program would automaticly put the theme in Windows. It was very handy and had a very cool GUI
