I have a trojan on my computer that keeps popping back after restarts and scans. Its an add trojan so I get about 20 popups each hour for websites, as the trojan has highjacked my internet browser and set it to a fake error message homepage, plus opening these popups.
Now my macafee has been unsuccessful (again) in getting rid of it, adaware doesn't find it, spybot doesn't find it, windows defender doesn't find it. The only thing that can find it are the top spyware programs off the internet who give you a free search and then you have to pay to get rid of the detected junk if you register. Now I don't want to do that, so is there a program out there, thats free, and is not adaware or spybot, that will detect this trojan and spyware and get rid of it?
Please help, tunks
I'm assuming you already tried a sys restore?
Sure there is... it's called the Restore / Windows XP installer disc.
when and if the golden 4 doesn't go deep enough to get it, this may be your ownly "free" way of doing. Launch windows explorer, create a folder rite on your C: drive called "back up". Take all your MP3's, gif's, waves and JPegs and any other media and throw it in there and back it all up. Sometimes, this is the ONLY free way of getting your cpu back.
Do this... since none of that worked this is the best free virus software out there. Get AVF Free, you can scan and delete all the junk for free. It's great! http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 Go to the bottom of the page and download, hope this helps! :)

AVG does a very good job at cleaning up trojans, but it isn't that good at preventing them.

now, i'm not sure if this program prevents trojans but i know that it is absolutely godly at blocking spyware/adware/malware before it even hits your ethernet port. http://www.arovaxshield.com/
I was able to get the programs off using the spyware guide and manually deleting them in safe mode using CCleaner. The only traces now are in my registry. How do I go about cleaning that out? Would the antivirus clean the junk outa my registry?

Dear god THANK YOU!
You're right, that is a total godsend. thanks.
Well I ended up biting the bullet and got spyware doctor, which removed those last few chunks of trojan. I couldn't deal with fearing trojans everytime I started up, but I got a few good programs on the journey, so thanks.
BTW spyware doctor is HIGHLY worth it, so check it out.
