I just started playing GRID and noticed it was chugging at certain areas. So I opened up rivatuner and saw that it was running at 100 degrees! The fan was running at 100%. Its a Geforce 8800GT and I never experienced such heat issues with previous games. My room is pretty cold as well (its winter). Any help?

make sure there is no dust buildup in the heatsink. If it keeps overheating you could remove the heatsink and apply some better thermal paste then reseat the heatsink. helped me drop around 8*c on my 3870s stock heatsink.

When I run Farcry 2, it only reaches 86 degrees.

Bear in mind graphics cards have much higher heat tolerances than CPUs.

That said, 100c is definitely pushing it. Get the side off and make with the compressed air. Alternatively, if everything is clean as a whistle and you still have problems, look into a better cooling solution. (Read: bigger fans/more of them/water cooling if you're feeling rich and adventurous.)

If say there wasn't anymore dust, why do you suppose I am having these heat issues now when I have been running games that stress the card far more than GRID since I originally bought it?

Have you checked the heatsink on the card itself to make sure it isn't loose? Is the card's fan working?

The 8800 gt cards are known for running extremely hot. I have 2 in my rig, infact. I replaced one of the stock coolers with one of these:Akimbo Cooler. My other one came with it. Have you checked the temps fully stressed prior to this? Are you sure this is not a normal temp for your card. My stock cooler had my card idle at 78 degrees Celsius. I hit close to 100 on Crysis. With the aftermarket coolers I idle at 53, & don't go above 70 fully stressed. Both cards are nicely oc'ed, too.I think 100 degrees is gonna be normal for that card.
