Previously i had a topic on how to get rid of lag and found out i need a new video card. So i might as well find out what type of video card i should get now so i don't have to worry about it when its time to buy it. I was thinking of this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130220 the eVGA Geforce 6600GT. All i really want to play is Halo, Call of Duty: United Offensive, GTA: San Andreas, and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland when it comes out for the computer. But i just wanna make sure that if i ever felt like pushing it and playing games like Guild Wars, or Half Life 2 i would be able to. I don't really wanna play those actually but you know what i mean if some thing i wanna play with those graphics comes out i wanna be able to run it. And from seeing the customer reviews i think i can, and i know video cards have to be respective to my computer as well. So these are my specs, i have a Compaq Pressario S6500NX with windows xp, an amd athlon xp 3000+, a 2.16ghz processer, 512 mb of ram, and i guess 143 gb of memory. So if you guys could tell me if this video card is just fine for me, or if theres better and cheaper video cards please tell me, and i dont think i want to pay more than $150 for a card.

Thanks

Well you see i don't care about how it looks just how it runs, the real difference is in the core clock and memory clock speeds anway, and the 256mb will just make it look prettier not run better.

Awesome but does that mean if i ever cared it could run games that are on the same level as Half Life 2 and Guild Wars and those other really new age ones.

And Jakkc its all about the core clock and memory clock speeds, those speeds make it run better and the mega bytes only make games look prettier. When it comes to games for me they got to run almost flawlesly and not suck, but i don't care about graphics in the least.

well right now i have a 5900 and it runs both half life 2 and guild wars pretty good, graphics arnt the greatest but i runs pretty good so i think that 6600 will be good for you.

Are you sure, did you look at its core clock and memory clock speeds? I was told that a good card should have a core clock speed of 500mhz and a memory clock speed of 600mhz-1000mhz, the memory clock is good on that though.

it has 12 pixel pipes & 4 vertex shaders which can be unlocked to 16 & 6. It will out perform any 6600 out there. I guarantee that card will render any modern game smoother than a 6600.
