Hey Guys, just hoping ya'll could help me out. As of now I have a really dated setup. IT can play BF2142, albeit not too well, but... These are the stats. -MOBO - Asus (some model) lol Video card - Radeon 9200SE 128MB Ram - Crucial ( 512 x 1 ) CPU - Athlon 2600+ Barton Core

As I said before It's not great right now but I'm hoping to change that.

I really don't have enough for a whole new setup.

This leads me to (2) questions.

1) Should I add another stick of memory? a)if so should it be the same make and model? 2) What kind of Video card should I get as to not bottleneck my system?

And the 2600+ is the highest speed processor that my MB will hold.

Thanks in Advance.

While your system is indeed dated, and your processor is going to hold you back, your computer would significantly benefit from more ram and a new video card.

I would add another stick of the same make and model of ram. Just make sure that the new stick matches the speed of your current stick.

As for a video card, I'm assuming that you have an AGP slot, and not a PCI slot. That being said, I'd recommend that you get a Nvidia 7600GT: Newegg.com - XFX PVT73AUDE3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

Anything faster than a 7600GT, and you're processor just won't be able to keep up. Also keep in mind that the 7600GT will have a higher power requirement than your 9200. It would be handy if you were to tell us the wattage of your Power Supply Unit.

I don't know, a 7600GT might start to bottleneck on a Athlon XP.

Even if you could find a really cheap older Geforce 6600, or a Radeon X700, it would still be leaps and bounds faster than your 9200. Hell, even if you could find a second hand 9800 for a few dollars it would be alot faster. Thats assuming you have a AGP slot and not just PCI. That and bump that thing up to 1GB ram, you should see a good performance boost just from doing that.

What games besides BF2142 are you looking to play?

I'd have to agree with Apollo, I think an Athlon XP would hold a 7600GT back. I think an X1650 would be the best bang for his buck. $89 at newegg.

Thanks I'll definitely get a new PSU. Do you think 450 would be enough?(right now I have a 350). And I will definitely get another stick of RAM.

I was planning on playing BF2, BF1942, CS:Source (which suprisingly runs well) and KOTOE 1 & 2 nothing really newer since I'm staying with XP.

No problem. 350W should still be enough for your specs.

Yeah, your 350W should do just fine. My PC is running a P4 3.0Ghz, 1GB ram, and a heavily overclocked 7300GT on a 350W just fine.
