For some reason no Windows Media Player movies will stream on the internet, i have to download them.... This problem has been going on for a while and it occurs with FireFox and Internet Explorer so it cant be my browser. Windows Media Player works fine though playing videos, just not streaming them. It just sits there with a black screen saying "Ready" and hitting the play button does nothing.... I was thinking of reinstalling it but im not sure if thats the answer, please help.

It could be a firewall setting, if you have installed another firewall, other than the XP firewall.

Can you stream Quicktime/iTunes video?

Can you watch some of those movies offline? Some movies use DivX encoding, and WMP cannot automatically download a codec for it.

For DivX videos, you will need to install the DivX, or Xvid codec package (Xvid is free).

Did you install Google Video?

Have you run any Anti-virus scans? Any Anti-Spyware scans? Any Ant-Adware scans?

What sites have you been trying to view streaming media from? Have you tried sites with older streams? That might be WMP6 compatible.

1. I dont have any firewalls (besides XP)

2. Yes, i can stream Quicktime/Itunes Videos

3. & 4. I can watch all of them offline, and i have DivX already installed

5. I dont tink so but google videos stream just fine

6. Ive run scans and they have picked up nothing

7. Videos on Putfile wont stream and some other little sights ive been to here and there like wimp or ebaumsworld

8. I dont know of any sights compatible with WMP6, but i do know for sure that i have WMP10 installed.

Hmmm...

Since you have not mentioned you connection speed, and do not seem to have even considered that it could be the problem. I'll assume it is atleast 2mb DSL.

Could you post a link to a stream that does NOT work. So we can check for codec issues.

All movies on putfile dont work, so i dont think theres codec issues with every movie on putfile :p
