i got some virus(s) over aim the other day, and ive been since tracking down the bastards. I have Adaware, and the newest AVG. Adaware found some stuff and removed it, but AVg doesnt find anything in scans, its strange. It will however, find trojans at random times and alert me. Also, i keep getting popup windows now; whenever i start IE my homepage is accompanied by a random ad in a diff window, its starting to bug me. This all started happening after the AIM incident, not before just so you know. I keep running scans, but the only things im finding now are when AVG finds it by itself, i remove them as it finds them but there is still the ad problem and more trojans pop up sooner or later anyway. I need a way to fix this without doing a full recovery process(please tell me there is one), so fire away, your help is appreciated.
Try booting in safe mode, and running Spybot Search & Destroy (google it) and the rest of your anti-virus programs. You could also give Avast! a try. It picks up some things AVG doesn't.
It sounds like AVG got all of the viruses. Unfortunately, AVG cannot detect the "Downloader" that is on your computer. It sounds like there is a random program running, that is randomly downloading viruses.
Possibly an Internet Explorer Toolbar, or ANYTHING else.
Avast.com and Spybot.com
Also try and stay away from things like Google Downloader and Yahoo Toolbar.

When you login to safe mode be sure to use the "Administrator" account, not your own. It will be a seperate account and if this loads only for your account (which 99% of them do), that has a better chance of finding the program responsible. It will also mean the program won't run into memory, so if you find the one responsible, and try deleting it and can't.. this will allow you to do just that. I had that trouble one time with a very big pain in the ass random popup generator.

Okay, i just downloaded and am in the process of setting up spybot and avast!, are they beter than avg and adaware in your opinions? Also, AVG found an infected system file, im afraid to take action on this one. How should i proceed?
I would quarantine it and see how the pc runs with it missing. Chances are it will probably be fine with the file out of the equation but if you need to restore it you still have that option.
I use Avast!, Spybot S&D, and Adaware. And yes, that is much better then just the AVG/Adaware combo.
ok, i have installed and run scans with all the programs. Avast! found a few things, spybot found like 19, and got some more tracking cookies on adaware. This is good, but avg still comes up with notices now and then with newly discovered stuff, and i still get those godamn popups! This is startin to get me pissed lol... Also, i threw that system file(its called njdjktuw.dll) into the vault. I got an alert that the file was missing when i rebooted, but no affect as of yet...
For some programs that cause popups like that, this program will find them. It only scans for a few kinds but alot of times it scans for things that regular antivirus' wont.
