If you're rich enough to be an MSDN subscriber, you can download Windows Vista Beta 1 already. See here. This gives us an insight as to when the OS will be fully released. Beta 1 usually lasts three to four months, Beta 2 usually two months and Release Candidate 1 usually comes after a six months (going off previous Windows releases). So I think we'll see Vista early next year.

I have heard the hardware support is pretty spotty for this beta, so you might want to be careful if you are thinking about trying it out. I will pay more attention to Vista when RC1 is out, for now I don't have much interest in something closer to XP than what Vista will end up being.

Are you really that eager to try it out? The screenshots can hold me over until Vista is more polished and ready for the masses.

Microsoft Developer Network. You basically sell your soul and get free M$ bloatware out of it.
