computernerd;4925060We've only played twice, and that's in a gametype I'm not very good at. Besides, I usually play most of my games on a CRT TV which is interlaced which means: better gameplay.

Buncha excuses. I dont play anything besides S&D and I do very well in TDM. And how does a CRT tv mean better gameplay?

Do you know what interlaced means?

Nowhere on the internet can I find someone who says that an interlaced CRT results in better quality than a progressive LCD or plasma display at the same resolution.

But they're susceptible to heat damage. Cooling does help improve lifespan on high performance or overclocked memory, but active airflow over most modern heatspreaders on performance memory is perfectly sufficient.

So...it's only really useful for people who think that heat spreaders don't do a good enough job or who have terrible airflow in their cases...?

Yes i do. I would like to know how you think it improves gameplay though?

A CRT TV is going to be no match for a good high res LCD monitor or HDTV for gaming. Besides, LCD's are progressive scan by design, which gives a better picture quality than interlacing does by drawing the entire picture at once top to bottom instead of alternating every other line. Why do you think "Full HD" is 1080P and not 1080i?

That would be because interlacing is inferior to progressive scan, regardless of what you're using it in. It was a really neat trick back in the day when both display and drawing technologies were crap by today's standards, a fact that 3dfx exploited to much success with their original SLI configurations. But that was over a decade ago.

So...it's only really useful for people who think that heat spreaders don't do a good enough job or who have terrible airflow in their cases...?

Eh, this gadget is really more of an e-penis thing.

Ok, obviously neither of you have ever heard me say that my LCD only goes to 1024 x 768 and no higher, also it is only 15". Well the CRT TV actually has a little higher resolution than my LCD. Also, I never said it would increase the quality (and I know that progressive scan has better quality than interlaced), I said it would give better gameplay; what I mean by that is it will give FASTER gameplay because it is interlaced.

By leaving out what you were comparing this interlaced CRT with, it becomes plausible to assume that you actually meant a similar-resolution LCD display, which is what is the most common display device.

Eh, this gadget is really more of an e-penis thing.

Huh. So basically a waste of money, then.

Well, like I said a lot doesn't mean the entire gaming community. But really I don't understand why Pedantic even brought up the question in the first place, I said specifically: "IF you WANT to run it at this resolution." Sheesh.

That's all well and good, but I didn't bring it up.
