Today I booted up my computer and was getting ready for a guild wars patch download. Since I hadn't played in a while I figured it would take a while so I was gonna play an old demo game I had on my hard drive. So I started up the patcher, it started to download, and I opened up Worms 3D (just a random little time waster for when i'm patching and whatnot). It gives me a black screen, and my computer locks up. I get an error message from guild wars that says guild wars isn't even installed any more (whoops haha, my bad). So it completely locks up and I can't do anything. So I shut it down. Boot back up normally, and proceed to login. Now every time I login, my mcafee startup thing shows up, then gets an error, with the regular "Send error report" thing and the works. Then a couple seconds after that, windows explorer gets a similair error. After a few seconds the explorer comes back, and I am in control again. But, when i open anything, it also gets an error... Even when I try to send the error report the error reporter gets an error. The only thing that works right is Windows Explorer, I can go into folders and everything ok its just everything else.. Oh and, I lock up when I hit Start too...
I have no idea what is going on.. any help would be great... Plz, fast responses...
Bumpin' for justice.
No need to bump quite so soon. ;)
At first glance that sounds like common symptoms of malware to me. Boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 on startup) and give your system a thorough scan with whatever AV software you use.
I'll try it a bit later. At first I thought it was a virus but I was a bit skeptical of it because I havent used that computer for literally anything BUT games for quite some time.

if it is malware, i suggest getting SmitfraudFix. i had HORRIBLE malware and with this, it removed EVERY malicious file on my pc. that is if you can download anything lol
Yup, it does sound like an virus/spyware. The fact that it seems to be disabling your anti-virus makes it seem even more likely that that's the case.
Well it's disabling EVERYTHING. It just happens to be mcafee that comes up first. And yea, i'll try that program. I can download on my other computers and just tranfer over with my flash drive.
UPDATE: Well thismorning I booted up and tried out of safe mode, and whaddya know, mcaffee quarantined a Trojan, and my problems were fixed.. Way to go mcaffee, try picking it up the first time. Anyway, i'm still scanning for other malware and the like to be safe. Thanks for all the response.
yeah i had the same problem with my extreme old pc. I was so down, i just threw my pc away :) Do some virus scans, spyware test etc. If your entire pc is scanned (probably hours to do..) reboot normal.
Ok ... Having Antivirus doesn't make you one hundred percent safe. Having it on your pc is kinda like going to the doctor. There are times where it doesn't know it has to protect you from something if it hasn't been told to.
The doctor can only protect you from what he/she knows is wrong. If your mcaffee wasn't updated or there was a new virus that had come out and you let in, then it wouldn't know that.
