AS I've said before, no need to buy any of that. I use the following and scan in the order listed: CCleaner (even cleans the index.dat file IE uses to track your URLs. Use Slim version) Ad Aware (with beefed up settings) Spybot (simply one of the best) HijackThis (not many know about this one) Windows Defender (don't use IE without it!) Avast (probably still the best free AV) Sygate (non-intrusive but thorough, with trace option) All the above can be had free, integrate well, and are simple to use. The only security that's hard to find free are dedicated anti trojan programs, though Spybot now has some AT capability.

I use the Avira AntiVir Premium Security Suite, which is excellent.

The virus scanner is free, and one of the best, you can get it from AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic - More than Security

Personally I like Spyware Doctor, but it ain't free. >Omen< gave you a great list of free ones, and some combination of those should work for you unless you have some horribly difficult to remove trojan or malware, etc.

To be honest though, when I have to spend hours trying to remove a virus/adware/whatever, I usually decide it's time to back stuff up and give it a Clean OS install, start fresh. I can usually do that faster and have better results anyways (a more responsive system without all the apps on it). But for anyone who isn't familiar with loading up an OS from scratch, that is a last resort. Thankfully it's been a few years since I've had to deal with any of that malware BS.

NOD32 is the best AV.

It's not a resource hog, but it is very robust and capable.

We sell NOD32 for antivirus and use NOD32 on a bootable disc to clean systems.

If you dont have money for antivirus the only freeware one I would recommend is AVG.

We also use Cleanup 4.52, AdAware2007, Spybot, and Hijack this. I also like to run Norton Windoctor last to try and repair any windows problems it detects.
