'[+Glasius+']OSX is target to plenty of viri and crapware, not in win dimension ofcourse, but still pretty frisky.

As for your nix box, you put alot of faith in your root password and general Linux security. No doubt the amount of automated crap for nix systems is almost non existing but not having a firewall makes your box an easy target for hacking and tcp/ip attacks.

Even with out a firewall Windows comps with Firewalls still are a lot more easier to hack into and give tcp/ip attacks to than a *nix comp. Its really hard to even hack into a *nix box with out a firewall, most of the hackers don't even bother to even try because its hard and most of them use *nix to get into a Windows comp and also use Mac to go into Windows comp. Only main reason why they give you a firewall if you get Suse or Redhat is if their going to use it for server use for more protection. Most Distros don't even give you a firewall.

Your box will reply to all requests on all ports, thats not a good thing nomatter what OS you use. A simlpe filter would increase your security by miles. Your putting all your faith in the strenght of your root password and the distros own security.
